Let's talk about the kdrama True Beauty

For today's blog post we are going to be talking about the popular kdrama that just ended on Feb. 4. That's right y'all we're talking about True Beauty. Just in case you've been living under a rock True Beauty is a kdrama based of a webtoon. The true beauty kdrama stars idol Cha Eun-woo (from kpop group Astro), actor Hwang In-yeop & female lead actress Moon Ga-young.

True Beauty Summary:
A student of Class 2-5 in Saebom High School who masters the art of makeup and transforms herself into a "goddess". Since childhood, Ju-kyung has been constantly discriminated by her family and bullied by her peers due to being perceived as ugly. This leads to her having an inferiority complex regarding her appearance and, worse, contemplating suicide. Eventually, she starts learning how to use makeup by binge-watching tutorial videos in the Internet. When she masters the art just before transferring to Saebom High School, her makeover proves to be transformative as she quickly rises to fame and her peers call her a "goddess". She tries her best to hide her real appearance from everyone but her classmate Su-ho, whom she had previously run into with her bare face a couple of times, later recognizes her beyond her makeup. In contrast to most girls, Ju-kyung is hooked to reading horror comic books and listening to heavy metal music. *source

I have so many emotions about this kdrama. Let's begin with this part...

Yes, the part where Suho breaks up with Ju-kyung. He breaks up with her and she's all sad about it right. This dude then has the audacity to come back and be all like "I missed you"

What really made me mad is that Suho kept on pretending like nothing happened and kept on "bumping into" Ju-kyung. Like if he really missed her after he broke up with her wouldn't he at least send her a "how are you doing" text when he was in America. BUT NOPE he kept her in the dark.

If I was Ju kyung I wouldn't have taken Suho back. Like no you broke my heart and I would have said if you really did miss me you would've called me or texted me. Like yeah he was with his dad in America and his dad was sick but sending a text literally takes only a few seconds.

Also, I get it the time difference between Korea and America was a lot and when it was day time for him it was night for her and vice versa. But like I said sending a text doesn't take long and if I really liked the person I would patiently wait for their response and I would read it whenever they sent it. Like if they sent it during the day and I was sleeping I would respond the next day.

Seojun on the other hand... Don't even get me started with this beautiful beautiful man. This man was there comforting Ju-kyung all this time.

And they had to do him like that. Also, what made me mad too is that Ju kyung never hugged him back once. He would hug her and she just rudely pushed him away.

Let's not even talk about the scene where poor Seojun was crying on the stairs after  telling Ju Kyung that Suho was leaving to America again. I'm still not over this scene. Especially since it's all over my tiktok for you page. Like can tiktok not right now.

Another thing that made me mad about the ending of True Beauty is that everyone got a happy ending except Seojun. Sure he was able to debut as an idol but he looked really sad.

Like other fans of the kdrama True Beauty said that the ending feels rushed and I would have to agree. I just don't know how to explain it but it feels really rushed and it could probably have used a couple more episodes before the ending.

Also, can we talk about the scene where Ju Kyung and Suho did the nasty. I found that scene to be extremely unnecessary like Ju Kyung's brother said "oh sh*t my eyes" lol

I've been seeing some comments about the doing the nasty scene on tiktok and some people are saying that only team seojun fans found that scene unnecessary/cringe. I'm team seojun and  I found that scene unnecessary because it like came out of no were. Like he was stopping her from leaving and then all of a sudden they were on the bed doing the nasty. I was like woah woah woah where did this come from. Its not cause I wanted it to be Seojun doing the nasty with Ju Kyung. What the hell y'all just reaching at this point.

I saw a tiktok that I wanted add here because I loved what they said. In the video I saw it made some valid points about Ju kyung. In the video they state that Ju Kyung was a horrible friend to Seojun. They also go on to state that even though she didn't like Seojun that way she couldn't even give him friendship energy when they were on the date as guy & girl.

Lastly, I want to say how beautifully made the kdrama was. It kept me really invested and there was times were 1hr wasn't enough. I wanted more and more. Also all the funny scenes that they had. Really liked that. What I would've liked tho was for Seojun to have some sort of a happy ending. Him debuting as an idol doesn't count as a happy ending in my book.

*disclaimer in no way shape or form am I hating on the actors that played these characters in the kdrama. I'm saying this causes people on tiktok have been coming for me because I commented on a couple of videos saying how Ju Kyung was dumb for going back to Suho after he broke her heart and how she doesn't deserve Seojun either because he's too good for her. This is my own personal opinion on fictional... I repeat FICTIONAL characters.

I'm planning on writing a blog post about what I would add to the kdrama true beauty. If you would like to see that let me know by either writing it in the comments or telling me on my social media accounts :)
