My Experience with the Covid 19 Vaccine

Hey everyone! In today’s blog post I wanted to talk about my experience with getting the covid 19 vaccine. I was offered the vaccine on February 17 when I went in for one of my radiation treatments. Before anyone says anything I sadly belong in the group of people who are sick and high risk to get covid (suffering from cancer). The lady at the front desk was so nice and made the appointment for me to get the vaccine the very next day.

On February 18, 2021 I had the first dose of the covid vaccine (and I also became cancer free) and on March 11, 2021 I had my last vaccine. I decided to write this blog post to share my experience and hopefully when people read what happens they won’t be scared to get the vaccine. Because a lot of bad people have been spreading false information about the vaccine and there’s some people who believe what they are being told and they won’t get vaccinated because they’re scared.

Ok so here’s what happened. I walked into the place and there was like 4 temperature checking tablet things. I didn’t take a picture of those because I was nervous to get told off because I was taking pictures but they look like this...

They had a sticker on the floor that told you where to stand. When you stood there and looked at the tablet the tablet would say “normal temperature” along with your temperature inside a green bar. After I got the go ahead they told me to get in line for the vaccine registration.

to stay safe

The line lead me to a big room with a lot of people sitting on tables. The people working there told you what number table to go to. When you get to the table they tell you to go to the person there asks to see an ID (example: drivers license or state ID). They then begin to ask you the typical questions they ask like if you’re allergic to blank or blank. Then they make you sign on their electric sign machine. If you’re going to get the vaccine for the first time (I’m assuming you are since you’re reading this) they give you a card. You have to hold on to this card because you’re going to need it for your second dose. They also gave me a packet filled with information about the covid vaccine. Like what symptoms you can feel etc.

After you’re finished with the people on the tables they then ask you to get in line for the vaccine.

When you get to the front of the line for the vaccine the person in charge of the line tells you what number table to go to. After I went to the number table they told me there I saw the nurse who gave me my shot and she was with a computer. I had a question before I got the shot (my question was that I was going to go get my final radiation and I wanted to know if it would affect the vaccine if I go the radiation after) so I told the nurse and she raised a red folder. She told me this was to get a higher up nurse to come answer my question because she was only qualified to administer shots.

When the nurse came she answered my question and told me that when I got my shot my arm would feel heavy and sore if I didn’t move it a lot after I got the shot.

After I got my shot (they gave me the Pfizer vaccine) they told me to wait 15 minutes to see if I had any reactions to the vaccine. Lucky for me I didn’t. After my 15 minutes were done I was allowed to leave.

here's me waiting for my 15 minutes
to be over

my view

At home I did arm movements on my arm, circle rotations. Pretend like you’re swimming or rowing a boat that helps. The next day I kid you not my arm didn’t hurt at all neither the following days after that.

On March 11 I got my 2nd dose of the vaccine and went through the same process as I told you. Except when I got to get my shot I didn’t ask any questions this time and the person who gave me the shot asked me if I had any reactions to the first dose of the vaccine and I said no. Waited the 15 minutes after my vaccine and again I had no reaction again so after the wait was over I was allowed to go home. Again at home I moved my arm a lot and the next day my arm felt like I didn’t get the shot. I also didn’t have any reaction to the vaccine; no fever, no arm soreness... nothing.

When I went for my 2nd dose of the vaccine. I was told that supposedly you could get a fever so what I did is that I took 2 Tylenol after I took the shot and after I took a shower. Apparently according to Hispanic beliefs if you shower after you get a shot you won’t get a fever. I don’t know how that works or if that’s true but I did that and it worked for me lol.

I really hope that now by reading what happens you won’t be that scared to get the vaccine. It’s something that is going to help us get the world back to normal so if everyone pitches in and does their part the world can go back to normal faster. If you have any other questions about my experience you can always tweet me or message me on Instagram.
