Hey everyone! For today's blog post we are going to be talking about a kdrama I just finished. It is called "God's gift: 14 days"
As always, this post is going to be containing spoilers so if you haven't seen this kdrama before beware.
Ok, so this kdrama is from 2014. The genre of this kdrama is time travel/thriller. The drama is about a little girl who gets killed and her mom travels back in time. She tries to change the past so her daughter doesn't die. When the little girls mom goes back in time the only one to believe her is a man named Ki Dong Chan because he also traveled back in time when she did. They both travel back in time (14 days) because they both have people to save. Ki Dong Chan has to save his brother from being killed in prison and the mom has to save her daughter.
This kdrama is very interesting. I liked seeing the moms character development. At first she was a strict mom and when she went back in time she changed. Even the daughter and dad noticed. In one scene when they were eating the mom lets the daughter eat more then what she used to let her eat.
There are a few things I didn't like about this drama. Since this drama is in the time travel category they do a lot of flashbacks. So you have to pay extra close attention to everything or else things get confusing. The ending also made me mad because, the ending was apparently left open to interpretation, but in my opinion it is so obvious that Dong Chan died. In the end Dong Chan went looking for the little girl. He eventually found her and thinks that his mom killed the girl. He thinks that his mom killed the girl because he got a strange call from a woman that sounded exactly like his mom saying that she killed the girl. Dong Chan was intoxicated (the bad guys injected him with alcohol because they knew about his blackout drinking problem. They did this at the bar and when he tried to take a taxi)
The little girl was injected with something that made her look like she was dead. Dong Chan picks the little girl up and started heading to the lake. He was going to throw the little girl in there, then she grabs on to his shirt lightly and he realizes that she isn’t dead. All this is happening as the mom is yelling at him that her daughter isn’t dead. Then we hear a slash and we see Dong Chan telling the little girl the story he was telling her before but this time he told her the ending. As he is telling this story we see his brother being released from jail and we see the mom, grandma and the little girl looking out into the lake.
What happened next is what made me think that Dong Chan killed himself. The little girl asked the mom what happened to the knight that saved the little girl. This leads me to believe that the one telling the ending was the mom but she is picturing Dong Chan. This combined with the splash we heard is what makes me think Dong Chan died.
If I were to rate this kdrama out of 10, I would give it an 8. It keeps you entertained but like I said it has flashbacks so if you aren’t paying attention things can get confusing.
